Can a Body Mass Index Chart accurately predict obesity?

There are many formulas and tables available such as a Body Mass Index Chart (BMI) and Insurance Tables of acceptable body weight ranges that can give you an approximate idea of whether or not you are obese, but these are not very exact.  Why?  Because a Body Mass Index Chart only uses height and overall weight as an indication of obesity.  Body builders and extreme athletes can actually show up as being obese on a Body Mass Index Chart, which is obviously ridiculous!  (These tables also don't work where child obesity is concerned.)

The Tanita Body Fat Monitor / Scale is one of the easiest ways to find out exactly what your body fat % is and whether or not it constitutes obesity (and there are scales that are suitable for children and can accurately predict child obesity).
