Foods That Burn Fat

Yes, that's right ... there really are foods that burn fat!  Now, basically the best way to burn fat is to change your diet to eating whole, natural foods.  The more nutrients and vitamins you give your body, the better chance it has to reverse damage done by years of eating unhealthy diets.  Eating healthy whole, natural foods works kind of like a big brush, cleaning out all your insides at the cellular level and clearing out years of toxins lodged in cells, especially fat cells.  And the result of all this is that fat is melted off your body, naturally and without putting an extra burden on your body by using un-natural  drugs and medications and eating highly processed un-natural foods full of chemicals, additives and preservatives.

Now, although I do believe that all natural, whole foods are naturally foods that burn fat, there are also specific foods that burn more fat than others.  Here are just a few:

  • Apples ... I consider apples to be a superfood.  They are very high in vitamins and nutrients and easy to digest.  They are also very effective at burning fat due to the pectin which helps the cells to resist storing fat.  And a wonderful side-benefit is that they are also fantastic for anybody who suffers from heartburn and / or acid reflux.  I myself have suffered from these conditions for most of my life and I was amazed at the difference eating apples made.
  • Salmon ... Salmon is one of best sources of Omega-3, which is one of the best foods that burn fat.  Many people would be surprised to hear that because they'd think, "how can eating fat make me lose fat?"  It's because there are really 2 types of fat, healthy and unhealthy.  Healthy fats like Omega-3 and Omega-6 are essential to being healthy and slim.  If you have an essential fatty acid deficiency, you will actually store more fat.  If you eat a good amount of healthy essential fatty acids and eliminate unhealthy trans-fats from your diet, you will naturally burn fat.  Other healthy fat foods that burn fat include cold water fish like sardines, tuna and mackerel as well as nuts like walnuts.
  • "Negative calorie" foods ... there have been a lot of press talking about negative calorie foods and how these are foods that burn fat.  The premise is that there are certain foods that use up more calories to digest the foods than the foods have themselves.  This is true, most fruits and vegetables fall into this category and are foods that burn fat.  They are naturally low in fat and calories and they do use up more calories to digest than they actually have, which is why they are called "negative calorie" foods.  But it is not really the "calorie" part that is of most benefit, it is the vitamin, nutrient and anti-oxidant factor of these foods that act synergistically to provide the most benefit, not only to burn fat but to improve your health in the process.
  • Whole grain foods
  • Oatmeal
  • Barley
  • Fibre foods
  • Protein
  • Beans and legumes
  • Eggs
  • Watermelon
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon and turmeric are anti-inflammatory and lower blood sugar levels, as well as increase fat burning

These foods can be considered "superfoods" because they are all natural and full of vitamins and nutrients.  Following a diet that includes many of these foods will not only help you to burn fat, but will naturally help to detoxify your body of years of unhealthy eating and an overload of toxins.
